Old Man December for "Seven in One Blow"

The ears are applied first, giving the spirit gum and liquid latex time to set.


Old Age Make-up is applied.


The Actor is helped into his wig. It is accented with glitter and cellophane show to give the illusion of ice.


Individual beard hairs were applied to the chin for Decembers goatee.

Making the Crowns: QK

"Seven in One Blow" - ECU Summer Theatre

A base was built over a wig head using twisted muslin until the desired shape was achieved. Since I would be using buckram next, I chose to cover the muslin plastic bags, to protect it from the water (as the buckram first needed to be soaked in water, for easy molding)





The buckram strips were applied cover the basic form.


To help the buckram keep its shape as it dried, I used a blow-dryer to hasten the progress and to move and adjust the material by hand, when needed.

The completed mold was cover in red velvet, jewels and ribbon. Elastic was attached to help keep the crowns on, as the "QK" had to fall on stage.

The algenate mold after being released from the models face. The plaster was poured into this mold to form the final cast.

About Me: Who is Casey Rattz?

I am graduate of East Carolina University with a B.F.A. in Theatre Design and Production, with a focus in Costume Design. Since graduation I have designed for musical theatre productions such as 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Buddy; The Buddy Holly Story and Annie - as well children shows and ECU main-stage dance productions (2010, 2011). In addition to my passion for design, I enjoy crafting, stage make-up application and design, and have experience working on and leading wardrobe crews, both small and large.
